The choice of packaging method depends on factors such as battery compliance, container loading efficiency, and destination requirements.
I. Three Core Packaging Methods (Quick Selection Overview)
Method | Applicable Scenarios | Core Actions | Loading Efficiency | Cost
Fully Assembled | Sample orders, high-end customization, customer’s partial assembly needs | Whole vehicle wrapping + foam corner protectors, tire anti-slip + strapping | Lowest (approx. 6-8 units for 20GP, approx. 12-15 units for 40HQ) | High (Large proportion of freight costs)
Semi-Disassembled (SKD) | Bulk sea freight, prioritizing cost-effectiveness | Roof/windshield/seats removed, body and disassembled parts secured separately | Medium-high (40HQ can hold 18-24 units of two-seater models) | Medium (Balancing packaging and freight costs)
Reinforced with Iron/Wooden Frames | Long-distance sea freight, multi-layer stacking, high-value/fragile goods Customized iron/IPPC wooden frames, stacked 2-3 layers after vehicle fixation. Highest (40HQ can hold 24+ units). Medium to high (packaging materials + labor).
II. Detailed Operating Procedures
(I) Basic Protection (Required for all methods)
1. Cleaning and Pre-inspection: Clean the entire vehicle, record any exterior defects and take photos for record-keeping to avoid claims disputes.
2. Electrical Safety: For electric vehicles, disconnect the negative battery terminal and control the charge level between 30% and 50%; for fuel-powered vehicles, drain the fuel and coolant.
3. Protection of Vulnerable Parts: Apply protective film to headlights and dashboard; wrap rearview mirrors and steering shafts separately with PE foam; deflate tires to 20%-30% to prevent bursting.
(II) Practical Operation by Method
1. Fully Packaged
– Vehicle Body: Fully wrapped with PE stretch film, with EPE pearl cotton corner protectors at the edges. – Securing: Anti-slip mats are laid inside the container, tires are positioned using anti-slip devices, and the vehicle body is secured to the container corner fittings with polyester straps (at least 3 securing points per vehicle).
– Suitable for: Urgent orders, sample delivery. Advantages include plug-and-play functionality; disadvantages include high shipping costs.
2. SKD Semi-Disassembled Packaging (Mainstream Recommendation)
– Essential Disassembly Components: Roof rack, windshield, seats (separately packaged with bubble wrap and corrugated cardboard boxes); the chassis and body remain integrated, reducing assembly difficulty.
– Securing Method: The vehicle body is wrapped with stretch film and placed separately from the disassembled parts (the disassembled parts are secured next to the vehicle body after being packed in a box); the container uses a “staggered arrangement” or “double-layer stacking” (the upper layer uses anti-slip mats and brackets for support).
– Key Advantages: A 40HQ container can load 18-24 two-seater models, significantly reducing unit shipping costs.
3. Steel/Wooden Frame Reinforced Packaging
– Steel Frame Solution: Custom-made steel frames secure the SKD (Skip Finish) golf cart within the frame. Frames can be stacked 2-3 layers high, suitable for forklift/crane loading and unloading.
– Wooden Frame Solution: IPPC-fumigated wooden frames (with fumigation markings), with anti-slip mats inside, and steel straps to secure the cart body. Suitable for countries with no restrictions on wooden packaging.
– Note: Steel frames must consider recycling or destination disposal costs; wooden frames must comply with the importing country’s quarantine requirements (e.g., EU ISPM 15).
III) Separate Battery Packaging (Compliance Focus)
Electric golf cart batteries (lead-acid/lithium-ion) must be packaged according to Class 9 dangerous goods standards:
1. Lithium-ion batteries: Individually sealed packaging with desiccant (humidity <5%), placed in a plywood box with foam lining, affixed with UN3171 marking and Class 9 dangerous goods label (≥10×10cm).
2. Lead-acid batteries: Leak-proof treatment, separately secured within a container, avoiding contact with vulnerable parts.
3. Documentation: The shipment includes a battery MSDS and UN38.3 report to ensure customs clearance compliance.
